In short: Winter in Pakistan and the Middle East can be deadly for poor families. Giving to our Winter Appeal 2026 now means warm kits and food reach them before the coldest nights.
Our Winter Appeal 2026 is now open. While autumn here in the UK brings cosy evenings and hot drinks, for many families in Pakistan, Gaza and Yemen it brings fear. They know what is coming, and they know they are not ready for it.
Why give in October?
It takes time to buy, pack and deliver thousands of warmth kits. If we wait until the first frost, children have already spent nights shivering in thin clothes. Donations made now allow our teams to buy in bulk, get the best prices and have everything on the ground before temperatures fall.
What winter means for a poor family
In northern Pakistan, temperatures at night drop well below freezing. Most families have no heating and rely on thin blankets and body warmth. Damp homes make illness worse, and the elderly and young children are at most risk. Parents often face an impossible choice between buying food and buying fuel.
Five year old Aadam was one of those children. When our team met him, he was sitting by a small fire trying to warm his hands, without a proper coat. With your help, we gave him and the other children at his school hats, gloves and blankets. That small gift changed his winter.
One body
The Prophet ﷺ said that the believers, in their love, mercy and compassion for one another, are like one body. When one part of it hurts, the whole body responds with sleeplessness and fever, as reported in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. When our brothers and sisters are cold, we should feel it too.
