In short: Friday is the best day of the week, and good deeds done on it carry special blessing. Giving Sadaqah on Friday, even a small amount, is an easy habit with a big reward.
Every week, Allah gives us a day that is better than all the others. Giving Sadaqah on Friday is one of the simplest ways to make the most of it, and it is a habit many of our supporters have kept up for years.
The best day of the week
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday. On it Adam was created, on it he was admitted into Paradise, and on it he was expelled from it,” as reported in Sahih Muslim. He ﷺ also told us that the Last Hour will be established on a Friday.
There is also a special hour on Friday in which no Muslim asks Allah for something good except that He gives it to him, as reported in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. Many scholars say this hour is most likely in the last part of the afternoon, before Maghrib.
Why give Sadaqah on Friday?
Imam Ibn al-Qayyim wrote that giving charity on Friday compared to other days is like giving charity in Ramadan compared to other months. Because Friday is a day of extra blessing, the scholars encouraged doing extra good on it, and charity is one of the most beloved good deeds.
Sunnah acts for Friday
- Take a bath (ghusl) and wear clean clothes.
- Go early to the Jumu’ah prayer and listen to the khutbah.
- Recite Surah al-Kahf.
- Send abundant salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ.
- Make plenty of du’a, especially before Maghrib.
- Give Sadaqah, however small.
Small and regular beats big and rare
The Prophet ﷺ said that the most beloved deeds to Allah are those done regularly, even if they are small, as reported in Sahih al-Bukhari. A few pounds every Friday adds up over the year, and more importantly, it keeps your heart connected to giving every single week.
That is why we created My Fridays. You choose an amount, and we give it on your behalf every Friday automatically. You will never forget, even on a busy week.
