Shaban is an often-neglected month in the Muslim calendar flanked on either side by Rajab and Ramadan. But it too is a very important month and one in which we start to prepare for the coming Ramadan.
The Prophet (saw) said:
Rajab is the month of Allah, Shaban is my month and Ramadan is the month of my Ummah”. [Suyuti]
It’s no coincidence that the command to send Salawat upon the Prophet (saw) was revealed in the month of Shaban:
Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet- so, you who believe, send blessings to him too and give him greetings of peace. [Quran 22:56]
Make the most of this great opportunity to increase our Salawat, keep voluntary fasts and offer extra prayers. This helps to plan for Ramadan but how do the poor prepare for Ramadan?
Many of the early generations of Muslims would pay their Sadaqah & Zakat so that it could reach the poor during Ramadan and Allah rewards our actions on our intentions.
