About Fidya and Kaffarah

When you give your Fidya or Kaffarah through the Zia Ul Ummah Foundation, you’re helping to secure daily Iftar for impoverished families who rely on our food banks to survive.

Read on to find out more about what paying Fidya and Kaffarah involves.

What is Fidya?

If you’re unable to fast because of sickness or old age, the Islamic ruling is that you must provide a poor person with two daily meals – also known as Fidya.

You’ll need to pay £4 for every fast you missed, or £120 for the whole month.

What is Kaffarah?

If you missed or broke your fast without a valid reason, and you’re unable to fast for 60 consecutive days, you’ll need to feed a poor person two daily meals for two months, or provide 60 poor people with two meals in the space of one day.

This is known as Kaffarah, and it amounts to £240.
